Newspapers
All residents who enjoy a morning newspaper receive their own copy delivered
to their room each morning, as well as the Sunday paper they prefer.
Chiropody
A vital service for most elderly people: their feet have covered a fair few
miles over the years! We have our own fully qualified chiropodist who visits
weekly. All feet are seen on a six weekly basis, though where problems exist
they will be seen as regularly as is necessary. There is no waiting for ages
for the overworked Health Service chiropodist to make a visit.
Physiotherapy
Again we retain our own private physiotherapist who reviews all new patients
and provides treatment for those who need assistance. Appropriate exercises
are taught to the nursing staff who can continue them in between the visits
of the physiotherapist. Should more intensive physiotherapy be required the
doctors will refer to the Physiotherapy department of King Court Hospital
and our own transport can ensure that appointments are kept.
Doctors
Residents who come from the surrounding area may remain under the care of
their own doctor. Residents who come from outside the area may find it necessary
to transfer doctors.

Activities
Dentistry
Unless they have their own preference for a dentist all our patients can receive
treatment from a local dentist who is happy to visit and deal with all their
dental (or denture) needs here.
Optician
Again individual wishes are paramount, but unless there is a particular optician
preferred the local optician will be willing to visit as often as required
to deal with spectacles.
Toiletries
All basic toiletries are provided. Soap and soap dishes, toothbrushes, denture
pots and ‘Steradent’, paper tissues, talcum powder, etc.
Laundry and Dry-cleaning
The majority of the laundry is undertaken in-house in the modern laundry.
As you might imagine our laundry operates day and night. With over forty beds
to change and over 100 towels used every day it is quite an undertaking. Personal
clothing is also laundered daily. Everyone has their own clothes, which we
label with nametags. There is no pooling of clothes, but we do have clothing
supplies and can often top-up from our stores: at which point they are for
the exclusive use of the person they are given to. Given the regularity of
washing required if would help us if machine-tolerating clothes were provided.
Although everyone likes their ‘ best clothes’ and these may not
always stand up to the rigours of machine washing. Delicates are hand washed
in our in-house laundry and some are taken to our local Dry-Cleaner.
